My wife and I made a deal that every year we would create anniversary presents based on the oldschool gift-giving standards (wood, wool, satin etc). Our seventh was copper so I wanted to create something from pennies minted on the year we were married. Unfortunately, I didn’t know that 2008 was the last year pennies had the Lincoln Memorial on the back. To make matters worse, I needed a shitload of them. To make matters worse, nobody gives a shit about pennies anymore.
After buying up as many rolls as I could, I finally found a collector who had several rolls of uncirculated pennies. The issue now was that they were all too new! So I concocted a brew of some pretty harsh chemicals (I was a lifeguard and used to play with some nasty stuff back in the day) and made them 20 years older overnight. Then they were dumped in a bank bag along with some rocks and then beaten to a pulp to make them even more aged.
After washing them all and then clear-coating them with UV spray, I spent the good part of a weekend creating the final result. Over four thousand pennies used, glued down and all heads up for luck =)
